Method
Collection and Publication of Figures
Annalist publishes figures from official documents only. Each figure names the document it comes from, passes checks against other official figures, and is published in a versioned snapshot.
Official Documents
Statements come from the official reports of each company. Each document is stored with its SHA-256 hash, and each figure names the document it came from.
Checks
Figures are compared with other official figures before publication: quarters with annual totals, balance sheet identities and repeated disclosures. A failed check at error level stops publication.
Versioned Snapshots
Each update produces a snapshot with its own identifier, so a citation remains reproducible. Ratios are computed from the snapshot with their inputs listed.
Sources
Figures come from the official reports of each company: the annual and interim reports that it files with its securities regulator or publishes for its investors. Each value names the document it comes from.
Each document is kept unchanged and identified by its SHA-256 hash. The figures come from the filings alone, so a market price, an analyst estimate or a news report changes none of them, and the only forecasts shown are those published by the company.
A report that states no date of publication carries the date on which the public index of structured annual reports added it, and its company has no release date. Where the terms of an official store allow a link to its home page only, the link names the search page of the store.
Figures
Definitions
Each item, such as revenue or total assets, has a fixed identifier and keeps one definition for a company across all its periods, so a series never mixes figures of different scope.
Quarters
Each quarter comes from one set of filings. A quarter that the filings do not report on its own, as most fourth quarters, is derived from the figures that they report. On company pages, a small d marks a derived figure.
Restatements
Each value comes from the latest filing that reports its period. Values that later filings report differently are listed as restatements in the snapshot.
Changes on One Basis
A change against a year earlier compares 2 figures of one basis: the figure of a quarter or a fiscal year and that of the same quarter or fiscal year before it, as the latest report that presents both gives them. A later report can restate a year for a disposal, a spin-off or a stock split, so the published figures of 2 consecutive years can differ in basis. Where the figures of a change are not the published ones, the readout of the chart names the report, and the dataset gives them with their sources. No change is stated where no report presents both figures.
Withheld Values
A value that contradicts the definition of its item, or that the documents report in contradiction, is withheld. A withheld value is empty, the dataset lists it with its reason and sources, and every ratio that needs it is empty. Gross profit is withheld where revenue less cost of sales does not give the gross profit that the company presents, and cost of sales where the company presents no gross profit, so that no gross margin mixes lines of different scope.
Fiscal Calendars
Fiscal years carry the company's own label, and each row gives its start and end dates, so a fiscal year can end in any month. Each quarter belongs to the fiscal year that ends next after it.
Compare places every fiscal quarter in one calendar quarter. The 4th quarter of a fiscal year belongs to the calendar quarter whose last day is nearest to the end of the fiscal year, the later one where 2 are equally near. The 3 quarters before it belong to the 3 calendar quarters before. A fiscal year that has not ended follows the year before. A quarter that shares fewer than a third of its days with its calendar quarter, or that would share a calendar quarter with another quarter of the company, is placed in none. The fiscal years of a company that reports fiscal years only belong to the calendar quarters of their ends. The placement changes no figure.
Checks
The coverage of 89 companies carries 18,067 checks at present: 17,543 passed, 524 warnings and 0 failed.
Before a snapshot is published, its figures are compared with other official figures. A failed check at error level stops publication, so the previous snapshot remains in place. A failed check at warning level is published and shown on the company page with the values involved. Each company page lists its own checks under Sources, and validation.json in each snapshot lists the checks by family with their exceptions.
The site is written only when the latest snapshot of every US filer passes these invariants again. Every value keeps one definition, the fiscal calendar has no gaps, no item that cannot be negative is negative, and the 4 quarters add up to their fiscal year or to a restatement that the checks name.
The Data Quality page counts, company by company, the values that the checks prove and the values that Annalist derives, withholds and tracks as restated.

Ratios
Ratios are computed from each snapshot by formulas with stable identifiers, such as corp.roic and bank.roe. Each
value lists the snapshot figures it uses. Banks follow the bank template of 66 ratios, in which
quarterly flows are annualised over average opening and closing balances. Other companies follow the corporate
template of 68 ratios, over fiscal years, quarters and the last 4 quarters.
A ratio is left out where it would not be meaningful, for example with negative equity. Ratios that require market prices are not published.
The abbreviation n.m. marks a change against the same period a year earlier that has no meaning as a percentage, where either figure is a loss or the earlier figure is zero. A value is shown as the latest only when it belongs to the latest quarter of the company, or to its latest fiscal year for an annual value; otherwise the page shows n/a. A total is given only where every part of it is reported. On a chart, a value far outside the others is drawn at the edge and marked, and its readout gives the value.
Analysis
Credit metrics, liquidity, earnings quality and forensic scores of the corporate template, shown on the Analysis tab of each company.
Credit Metrics
Credit metrics follow the definitions of S&P and Moody's as far as the filings allow. Lease-adjusted debt adds operating lease liabilities to short-term borrowings and long-term debt, before the deduction of cash. Adjusted EBITDA adds depreciation and amortisation, goodwill impairment, share-based compensation and operating lease cost to EBIT. Funds from operations deduct cash interest, lease interest and cash taxes from adjusted EBITDA; lease interest is the average lease liability times the weighted average discount rate of the leases. Restructuring and litigation charges, other impairments and profits on disposals stay in EBIT.
For a company that reports operating lease liabilities, a lease-adjusted ratio is empty for a period whose lease liabilities or lease cost are not reported. Most companies give the lease cost in the annual report only, so their lease-adjusted ratios cover fiscal years.
The rule corp.credit_band places debt to EBITDA and FFO to debt in the standard volatility table of the S&P
corporate methodology. S&P applies the table to its own adjusted figures, which also deduct surplus cash and
adjust for pensions, asset retirement obligations and other items, so the band of an S&P calculation can
differ.
| Band | Debt to EBITDA | FFO to debt |
|---|---|---|
| Minimal | below 1.5x | 60% and above |
| Modest | 1.5x to below 2x | 45% to below 60% |
| Intermediate | 2x to below 3x | 30% to below 45% |
| Significant | 3x to below 4x | 20% to below 30% |
| Aggressive | 4x to below 5x | 12% to below 20% |
| Highly leveraged | 5x and above | below 12% |
Liquidity and Maturities
The liquidity cover divides cash, short-term investments and operating cash flow by debt due within 12 months, capital expenditure and dividends. The flows of the fiscal year, or of the last 4 quarters, are taken as those of the next 12 months, and undrawn credit facilities are not included. Debt due within 12 months is the first year of the maturity schedule at a fiscal year end and the current portion of long-term debt at other quarter ends, plus short-term borrowings.
Earnings Quality
Cash-flow accruals are net income attributable to the company less operating cash flow, over average total assets. Balance sheet accruals follow Sloan (1996) and total accruals Richardson, Sloan, Soliman and Tuna (2005); both include the assets and liabilities that acquisitions bring in and disposals take out.
Scores
The scores use their published coefficients and thresholds. Each value lists its parts with their coefficients.
| Score | Thresholds | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Altman Z'' score | Distress zone below 1.10, safe zone above 2.60 | Altman, Hartzell and Peck (1995) |
| Beneish M-score | Model threshold minus 1.78 | Beneish (1999) |
| Dechow F-score | 1.00 equals the unconditional probability of a misstatement, 0.37% | Dechow, Ge, Larson and Sloan (2011), model 1 |
| Piotroski F-score | Findings group 7 to 9, 4 to 6 and 0 to 3 signals met | Piotroski (2000) |

Findings and Their History
Key findings on company pages are written by fixed rules from the figures of the latest snapshot. Each rule has
a title, which the pages show, and an id, which findings.json and the MCP server give for citation, such as
corp.revenue_yoy for revenue against the same quarter a year earlier. Each finding makes a claim,
for example that revenue is higher than a year earlier, on a measure such as the growth rate, and names the
documents behind its figures. The rules of the analysis modules, such as corp.credit_band and
corp.altman_zone, state their findings on the Analysis tab.
Each finding keeps a history in an append-only ledger, published for each company as findings.json. A thread is one claim of one rule. Each record of a thread carries a state, the reason it was written, the rule version and the snapshot. A thread is Strengthened or Weakened when its measure moves, in the direction of its claim, by more than the band of its rule; otherwise it is Confirmed. When a rule states another claim, the old thread is Retired and a new one starts.
When a ledger is opened, the 8 quarters before the latest one, or the 2 fiscal years before the latest for a company that reports fiscal years only, are reconstructed from the figures of the latest snapshot, as at the end of each period, and marked as reconstructed. Their figures are as later reported, so a restated figure replaces the original one. A rule that states a finding for a company for the first time after its ledger was opened gets the same reconstruction for its own threads. Records written as each later snapshot is published are marked as recorded.
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| New | The finding is stated for the first time, or again after it was retired. |
| Confirmed | The finding still holds and its measure moved by no more than the band of its rule. |
| Strengthened | The finding still holds and its measure moved further in the direction the finding states. |
| Weakened | The finding still holds and its measure moved back towards the opposite direction. |
| Retired | The finding no longer holds: its rule now states another claim, or no longer applies. |
| Change type | Reason the record was written |
|---|---|
| Initial | The first record of the rule for the company. |
| Data update | A later period, from a new report. |
| Restatement | The same period with different figures, after the company reported them differently. |
| Methodology | A new method version of the rule. |
| Wording | A new wording version of the rule, with the same method. |
| Correction | The same period with different figures after Annalist corrected how it reads the filings; the reason names the correction, and config/corrections.toml lists the earlier records it concerns. |
Corrections
Errors of Annalist in published figures or findings, with the records they concern. Ledgers stay append-only: a correction adds records with the change type correction.
| Date | Company | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| 18 Oct 2026 | Johnson & Johnson | Fiscal years ending in the first days of January carried the label of the following year: fiscal 2022, which ended on 1 January 2023, appeared as FY2023, and fiscal 2023 was missing. Records 1 to 27, for FY2023, FY2024 and Q2 to Q4 FY2024, compare with the wrong year; record 81 corrects the latest finding that changed. |
| 19 Oct 2026 | Oracle Corporation | Annalist did not capture the debt that Oracle reports as notes and loans, current and non-current. Its total debt was US$7.2 billion at 31 May 2026 against US$129.5 billion with its notes, and nil at 31 August 2026 against US$125.3 billion. Its net debt, credit metrics, Beneish M-score and Piotroski F-score used too little debt. Records 6, 10, 31, 32, 37, 46, 70, 71, 75, 77 and 84 cite figures that the correction changed, and records 49 and 87 retire a net cash position that the corrected figures never show. Records 88 to 93 state the corrected findings, among them net debt of US$88.3 billion at 31 August 2026 and lease-adjusted debt of 3.9 times adjusted EBITDA, in the significant band. |
| 19 Oct 2026 | Tesla, Inc. | Annalist did not capture the non-current debt that Tesla reports on a line of its own. Its total debt was US$1.3 billion at 30 June 2026 against US$9.1 billion with that debt. Its net cash, credit metrics, Beneish M-score and Piotroski F-score used too little debt. Records 6, 7, 11, 12, 19, 29, 30, 34, 35, 42, 50, 59, 68, 69, 73, 75, 83 and 92 cite figures that the correction changed. Record 74 retires the middle Piotroski score that the corrected score of 6 of 9 for fiscal 2025 keeps. Records 95 to 99 state the corrected findings, among them net cash of US$34.5 billion at 30 June 2026 and lease-adjusted debt of 1.0 times adjusted EBITDA for fiscal 2025. |
| 19 Oct 2026 | Eli Lilly and Company | Annalist counted the commercial paper of Eli Lilly twice. It was captured as short-term borrowings and is also part of the current debt that the company reports, so total debt was overstated by US$1.50 billion at 31 December 2022, US$6.19 billion at 31 December 2023 and US$4.34 billion at 31 December 2024. Records 5, 21 and 23 cite figures that the correction changed. Record 64 states the corrected finding: lease-adjusted debt of 2.2 times adjusted EBITDA for fiscal 2024, in the intermediate band. |
| 19 Oct 2026 | Exxon Mobil Corporation | Annalist counted the commercial paper of Exxon Mobil twice. It was captured as short-term borrowings and is also part of the current debt that the company reports, so total debt was overstated at 5 year ends, by US$17.31 billion at 31 December 2020 and US$3.06 billion at 31 December 2025. Records 39 and 74 cite figures that the correction changed; no current finding changed. |
| 19 Oct 2026 | Intel Corporation | Annalist counted the commercial paper of Intel twice. It was captured as short-term borrowings and is also part of the current debt that the company reports, so total debt was overstated at 6 balance sheet dates from 31 December 2022 to 28 June 2025, by up to US$3.90 billion. Records 6, 7, 39, 40, 48 and 49 cite figures that the correction changed; no current finding changed. |
| 19 Oct 2026 | UnitedHealth Group Incorporated | Annalist counted the commercial paper of UnitedHealth twice. It was captured as short-term borrowings and is also part of the current debt that the company reports, so total debt was overstated at 4 quarter ends from 31 March 2023 to 31 March 2024, by up to US$8.20 billion. No finding cites the figures concerned. |
| 19 Oct 2026 | General Electric Company (GE Aerospace) | Annalist counted the short-term borrowings of General Electric twice. They were captured on their own and are also part of the current debt that the company reports. Total debt was overstated by US$4.71 billion at 31 December 2020 and by US$5 million to US$25 million at 5 quarter ends since 30 June 2025. Records 35, 36, 42, 43, 49, 57, 58, 66 and 67 cite figures that the correction changed. Records 69 and 70 state the corrected findings, net debt of US$9.8 billion at 30 June 2026 and a liquidity cover of 5.6 times. |
| 19 Oct 2026 | Palo Alto Networks, Inc. | Annalist did not capture the convertible notes that Palo Alto Networks reports as current and non-current. Where the company also reports the total of its notes, the 2 add up to it exactly. Total debt was missing at 21 balance sheet dates from 31 October 2020 to 31 July 2026: US$3.12 billion to US$3.68 billion until April 2023 and US$1.77 billion at 31 July 2026. Its 10-Q filings for 31 October 2025 and 31 January 2026 report no debt, and those dates now carry nil debt. Records 69 and 70 cite figures that the correction changed. Records 71 to 93 state the corrected findings, among them net cash of US$1.3 billion at 31 July 2026 and lease-adjusted debt of 0.7 times adjusted EBITDA for fiscal 2026, in the minimal band. Records 71 to 88 are reconstructed from the corrected snapshot. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Amazon.com, Inc. | Annalist derived the depreciation and amortisation of Amazon for the fourth quarter of 2020 from figures of different filings: US$7.55 billion where the filings of 2021 give US$7.62 billion. No finding cites the figure. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Walmart Inc. | Walmart declares its annual dividend in the first quarter. The dividends per share of the fourth quarters of fiscal 2022 and 2023 came out negative, minus 1.47 and minus 1.49: the years restated for the stock split of 3 for 1 less 9 months before it. Annalist derives no per-share figure from 2 filings, and 7 quarterly dividends per share are no longer published. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | UnitedHealth Group Incorporated | 2 quarterly proceeds from debt of UnitedHealth that came out negative from revised cumulative figures, minus US$1 million and minus US$7 million, are withheld. Dividends per share of 6 quarters derived from the figures of 2 filings are no longer published. No finding cites them. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Alphabet Inc. | Annalist filled the long-term debt of Alphabet at 16 dates before 2025 with a line that includes finance leases, beside a line that leaves them out at the other dates; those dates now have no long-term debt. Share-based compensation of 13 quarters came from a note; it now comes from the cash flow statement. The earnings per share of the second quarter of 2021 now come from the filings of 2022, after the stock split of 20 for 1, 1.36 where 27.26 was published, while the first quarter keeps 26.29 from before it. Dividends per share of 2 fourth quarters derived from the figures of 2 filings are no longer published. Record 103 states the corrected credit finding. Records 6, 12, 66, 67, 70, 76, 79, 82, 85, 91, 94, 98 and 101 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | CVS Health Corporation | The fourth quarter of 2021 of CVS Health came from a fiscal year and 9 months of different filings; it now comes from one set of filings, with operating income of US$2.23 billion where US$2.35 billion was published. 5 quarterly repurchases of shares that came out negative from revised cumulative figures are withheld. Dividends per share of 3 fourth quarters are no longer published: 2 derived from the figures of 2 filings and 1 that the set of filings of its quarter does not report. No finding cites the figures. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Berkshire Hathaway Inc. | The fourth quarter of 2021 of Berkshire Hathaway came from a fiscal year and 9 months of different filings; it now comes from one set of filings, with net income of US$39.65 billion where US$39.79 billion was published. 3 quarterly amortisation and depreciation figures that rested on lines of different scope are no longer published. No finding cites the figures. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | McKesson Corporation | The quarterly depreciation and amortisation of McKesson was depreciation alone until fiscal 2025, US$64 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2024, beside a fiscal-year total that includes amortisation. Those quarters are no longer published; the quarters since fiscal 2025 come from the total, which McKesson reports for every quarter. Dividends per share of 6 quarters derived from the figures of 2 filings are no longer published. Records 6, 12 and 20 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Cencora, Inc. | The quarterly depreciation and amortisation of Cencora was depreciation alone until fiscal 2025, US$110 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2024, beside a fiscal-year total that includes amortisation. Every quarter now comes from the total, which Cencora reports for every quarter from fiscal 2025, and the quarters before it have no figure. Dividends per share of 5 quarters derived from the figures of 2 filings are no longer published. Records 115 and 116 state the corrected findings, among them lease-adjusted debt of 2.5 times adjusted EBITDA over the 4 quarters to 30 June 2026. Records 6, 14, 21, 29, 36, 44, 51, 58, 64, 68, 69, 76, 94, 109 and 113 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | NVIDIA Corporation | The amortisation of intangible assets of NVIDIA for the third quarter of fiscal 2022 came from a 3-month figure of US$518 million that differs from the difference of its cumulative figures, US$143 million, which is now used. Share-based compensation and dividends of several quarters now come from one set of filings. Dividends per share of 6 fourth quarters derived from the figures of 2 filings are no longer published, among them minus 0.08 for fiscal 2021 and minus 0.104 for fiscal 2023. The first quarters of fiscal 2021 and 2024 now show the dividend after the stock splits, 0.04 and 0.004. Records 101 and 102 state the corrected findings. Records 7, 8, 19, 28, 42, 51, 83, 93, 94, 96, 97, 99 and 100 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Microsoft Corporation | Annalist left the amortisation of intangible assets that Microsoft reports on a line of its own out of depreciation and amortisation: US$34.30 billion for fiscal 2026 against US$39.00 billion with it. Microsoft reports its cash flow line for depreciation, amortisation and other items in a form of its own, and the sum of the 2 lines that it reports separately is used. Record 95 states the corrected credit finding. Records 7, 43, 56, 66, 75, 84, 90 and 93 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) | SpaceX reports depreciation alone and a total of depreciation and amortisation with different values in the same filing; the total has no figure for the second quarter of 2026, so depreciation is no longer published as that quarter's depreciation and amortisation. No finding cites the figure. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Meta Platforms, Inc. | The quarterly depreciation and amortisation of Meta Platforms mixed the total of its cash flow statement with depreciation alone: US$1.58 billion for the second quarter of 2020 where the total is US$1.70 billion. Short-term investments and property, plant and equipment at 8 and 3 dates came from lines that Meta Platforms does not use at its latest dates and are no longer published. Dividends per share of 2 quarters derived from the figures of 2 filings are no longer published. Records 92 and 93 state the corrected findings. Records 7, 18, 26, 64, 85, 88, 90 and 91 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Broadcom Inc. | Annalist left the amortisation of intangible assets that Broadcom reports on a line of its own out of depreciation and amortisation: US$0.57 billion for fiscal 2025 against US$8.64 billion with it. Broadcom reports its quarterly amortisation since its 10-Qs of fiscal 2026 only, so the quarters before fiscal 2025 have no depreciation and amortisation. Dividends per share of 6 quarters are no longer published: 5 fourth quarters derived from the figures of 2 filings and the third quarter of fiscal 2023, which the set of filings of that quarter does not report. The fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 showed minus 10.66, the year restated for the stock split of 10 for 1 less 9 months before it. Records 102 and 103 state the corrected findings. Records 4, 6, 7, 19, 21, 34, 43, 53, 62, 64, 77, 85, 93, 96 and 100 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Tesla, Inc. | Tesla's filings report the changes in its receivables and inventories of 2020 and 2021 with opposite signs; 12 of these figures are withheld. The change in accounts payable of the fourth quarter of 2021 now comes from one set of filings, US$1.81 billion where US$2.60 billion was published. Records 5, 8, 18 and 20 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Eli Lilly and Company | The quarters of Eli Lilly now come from one set of filings each: operating cash flow, investing cash flow and research and development of several quarters of 2020 and 2021 had mixed figures of different filings. Dividends per share of 11 quarters derived from the figures of 2 filings are no longer published. Records 69 and 70 state the corrected findings. Records 3, 5, 6, 7, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 31, 36, 41, 43, 48, 57, 63, 66 and 68 cite figures that the correction changed. |
| 20 Oct 2026 | Micron Technology, Inc. | Share-based compensation of 12 quarters of Micron Technology came from a note; it now comes from the cash flow statement, US$309 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2026 where US$297 million was published. Snapshots and Citation
A snapshot identifier such as FY2026Q2_0a602300 names the latest fiscal quarter it contains and the first 8 characters of the SHA-256 of its dataset. A change in any figure, source or method produces a new identifier, and earlier snapshots are not altered, so a citation remains reproducible.
Cite a figure as: Annalist, company name, snapshot company id/snapshot id (as of period); item label, period; source document id (document URL).
Every snapshot that the site has published is listed for its company in snapshots.json, with its as-of period, the hash of its dataset and the time at which the site first carried it. A snapshot stays on the site after a later one replaces it, with its statements and its documents, so that a citation of its identifier resolves and the coverage can be taken as it stood on any date since the list began, on 22 October 2026.
Limits
Reported figures are not adjusted, except where a document misprints a figure and the correction is documented with its reason in the snapshot. Annalist groups companies into sectors of its own, based on SEC industry codes. Figures are provided as they are, without warranty of accuracy or completeness, and they are not investment advice. Bands, zones and scores are outputs of published methods and are not credit ratings. The official document named beside each figure remains the authoritative version.
